The Costa Dorada region starts at the south of Barcelona and continues to the Ebro Delta. Here you will find numerous well-known seaside resorts where many holidaymakers spend their holidays every year. Tourism is an important source of income for the Spaniards. The campsites are of good quality and everything is aimed at making the guests as comfortable as possible.
Famous seaside resorts on the "Golden Coast"
Along the coast of the Costa Dorada are the famous tourist places such as Sitges, Salou, Cambrils and Tarragona. It is a beautiful area that has a lot to offer. From most coastal towns there are good connections by bus or train to the Catalan capital Barcelona. Public transport works well and is cheap. There are many campsites in the coastal area, a large part of which is located directly on the sea. Most beaches are of good quality and generally safe for children. Water sports are offered on many beaches. There are also various "amusement parks" such as Aquopolis and Port Aventura.
Discover the interior of the Costa Dorada
Contrary to what the name suggests, the Costa Dorada is much more than a “Golden Coast”. If you choose to camp in the interior of the Costa Dorada, a day at the beach in between is also very possible. The landscape varies from hilly to very rugged mountain area with beautiful views. Take on the challenge of climbing the mountains or exploring the wild nature via long-distance trails. A good example is the Parc Natural Serra del Montsant. The well-known long-distance trail GR 117 also runs through this area. But you can also make beautiful trips by mountain bike or car. You will find “La Ruta del Cister”, a very important cultural route on which you will encounter the many monasteries in this area. The old, walled city center of Montblanc is certainly worth a visit. Most campsites are terraced campsites and are located high in the area, sometimes reaching over 1000m.
Visit the Ebro Delta
The aforementioned Ebro delta (Terres de Ebre) is also strikingly different. In this flat area there are beautiful bays, salt pans and some low dunes and rice fields are everywhere. You can enjoy walking and cycling, there is a well signposted network. Fishing is also a good option or take a nice Delta cruise. The nature is beautiful and the number and species of birds is overwhelming.
Gastronomy
You can enjoy the typical Catalan cuisine, the delicious wines and the beautiful surroundings. The Costa Dorada, which in Dutch means "Golden Coast", has countless old villages and towns that invite to be discovered. You'll also find prehistoric caves and remains of Roman occupation centuries ago, when Tarragona was the region's capital.
