Favorite regions

Lake Garda in Italy is located right on the border between four Italian regions, namely Trentino, South Tyrol, Lombardy and Veneto. The north of Lake Garda is located in the Trentino/South Tyrol region, also known as Alto Adige. You are there against the border of Austria and that is why people here often speak German as well as Italian. This region is covered with the mountain peaks of the Dolomites, with peaks over 2,000 meters high. The east of the lake is in the Veneto region, known for the famous city of Venice. It is a region full of culture, vineyards and water sports and therefore very popular with the Dutch.

The south of Lake Garda is located in the Lombardy region, known for the large northern Italian lakes, such as Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Lago d'Iseo, Lago d'Idro and of course Lake Garda. Most luxury campgrounds and campgrounds with water slides are on the southern side of the lake in the Veneto and Lombardy regions. Those seeking tranquility and water sports enthusiasts will feel at home on the small campsites in the north of the lake, in the Trentino and South Tyrol region. All in all, there is plenty to do for everyone.

Visit picturesque towns and villages

Lake Garda offers so many beautiful towns and villages that we would like to name every village on the lake! Let's pick out a few gems:

Fortified town of Peschiera del Garda
The town of Peschiera del Garda is located in the Veneto region, on the southeast side. The fortified town has a historic center and is one of the most popular places on the lake. Enjoy a lovely terrace on Viale Cordigero, a car-free road that runs along the canal, one of the nicest places to eat.

Visiting the market in Desenzano del Garda
The place Desenzano del Garda is located on the south side of the lake and has a pleasant center with a nice square: Piazza Malvezzi. Discover the atmospheric terraces, restaurants, discos and clubs. Every Tuesday, savor the flavors of the Italian market with delicious local products and admire the handmade ceramics and leather goods.

Wine tasting in Bardolino
For real wine lovers, we recommend a visit to the town of Bardolino. The place Bardolino is known for the red wine of the same name. This place on the southeast of the lake is full of beautiful olive groves and wine grapes.

The characteristic village of Garda
Garda is a popular tourist resort and located on the eastern shore. Stroll along the promenade, visit the harbor with fishing boats and stroll through the narrow streets with nice shops. In Garda you can practice many water sports, especially sailing but also the local rowing technique 'Voga Veneta'.

Day trips and activities on and around Lake Garda

Do you feel like swimming, sailing, surfing, boating, water skiing or diving? It's all possible in Lago di Garda! The top campsites are often right on the lake! There are also plenty of sporting activities around Lake Garda, such as mountain biking, golf, tennis, horse riding, cycling, (mountain) hiking and paragliding. Do you have your own boat? Most luxury campsites have their own slipway.

The lake offers many child-friendly and luxurious campsites and is a real children's paradise due to the number of amusement parks in the area. In the southeast you will find Gardaland in Peschiera or Movieland and Aquapark in Pacengo. The kids will have fun all day long. For cultural excursions we recommend the Vittoriale and Sirmione.

Museum Vittoriale degli Italiani
The museum in the southwest of the lake is a wonderful collection of buildings, artifacts and vehicles in a park. The museum was built by the famous poet Gabriele d'Annunzio (1863-1938). Discover the lush gardens, the beautiful amphitheatre, the mausoleum, the lemon trees overlooking the lake, but also the bow of a warship, an airplane and cars. This is a place full of surprises!

Sirmione Peninsula and Rocca Scaligera Castle
On the Sirmione peninsula in the south of Lake Garda, you will find medieval streets and the special castle Rocca Scaligera. This castle is surrounded by a moat, which lies in the lake. You can walk here over the drawbridge or between the castle walls. You can even climb the tower! Tip: Go early in the morning or in the afternoon, then it is quieter and you take the most beautiful pictures.

Nature...... around Lake Garda
The intense blue Lago di Garda is the largest lake in Italy and the Mediterranean climate offers a rich nature with olive trees, palms, cypresses, lemons, oleanders and oranges. Discover the beautiful 'Varone' waterfall and the cave 'Grotta Cascata del Varone' in the north at Tenno in Trentino. Enjoy the spectacular view from the Monte Baldo mountain range, on the northeast bank. Here you can walk beautifully and enjoy beautiful waterfalls, forests and rock walls. You will find the most green, quiet and small campsites in the north of Trentino/South Tyrol.

Torbole and Nago
These two places are mainly known by windsurfers and sailors and are located on the north side of the lake, but you will also find the gigantic prehistoric limestone rocks here. Cool face! Visit the 'Marmitte dei Giganti' and the Gola del Furlo, the Furlo gorge. This is a natural spectacle with imposing white limestone layers, created over millions of years by the flowing water.

Drinking Limoncello in Limone sul Garda
This picturesque village on the northwest of the lake is known for the local lemon liqueur 'Limoncello' and the many lemon greenhouses. Visit the lemon garden 'La Limonaia del Castel' and discover how lemons, oranges, mandarins and kumquats are grown.

Did you know… ?
…that Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake and has been around for 1.5 million years? In addition, there are 7 islands that you can visit: Isola del Garda, San Felice del Benaco, Isola dei Conigli, Isola di Trimelone, Isola San Biagio, Isola di Sogno and Isola dell'Olivo.
