Camping Municipal Alcácer do Sal
Een uitstekende kleine gemeentecamping met prima sanitair, gelegen naast het zwembad in een boeiend deel van de Alentejo.
In Alcácer do Sal, a historic town on the banks of the mouth of the Rio Sado, you can camp on a pleasant municipal site. The campsite is located next to the municipal swimming pool and the sports fields, on the north side of the city. At 100 m distance you will find the Ecomarché, always easy. The campsite is laid out on an old olive grove and has excellent sanitary facilities and well-kept large camping pitches. In the high season you can make free use of the adjacent swimming pool. The campsite is ideal as a camping site, but also lends itself to a longer stay. The mouth of the Rio Sado has always been of great value in the distant history, and both the Romans and the Moors and the Portuguese have fought for this city. In the higher part of the city are the remains of a Moorish castle ruin. The mouth of the river is used for rice cultivation and for salt extraction. A nice trip from the campsite is the Troia headland, which runs all the way to Setubal. A ferry can take you to the other side. Due to the sheltered location of the estuary, beautiful beaches lie on the inside of the peninsula and it is an area for birdwatchers. On the Atlantic side is the rough ocean with spectacular waves and possibility to surf.
