John O'Groats Camping Site
Camping ligt in de meest N-O hoek van Schotland bij het zogenaamde "laatste huis" en is een geschikte locatie om de Orkney eilanden te bezoeken.
The campsite is located in the most N-O corner of Scotland at the so-called "last house" and is a suitable location to visit the Orkney Islands. The camping pitches are situated on a fairly flat grass area that descends to the sea. The campsite does not have direct access to the approximately 5 meters lower and stony beach. Water sports on the spot is advised against! However, it is possible to sail on one of the many fishing boats from the campsite to fish at sea. Sights near the campsite include the Orkney Islands. The first ferry service to it was opened in 1496 by the Dutchman Jan de Groot, after whom the place was named (info: www.jogferry.co.uk). You can also visit Duncansby Head at 3 km. The most north-eastern point of Scotland is a cape with a spectacular steep coast. In front of the sea there are 3 naturally formed unstoppable 90 meters high pillars. Many seabirds, including puffins, live on the neighboring cliffs. The Last House is also worth a visit. In this adjoining so-called last house of Scotland a museum has been established, among other things, about the history of the village.
