De berggebieden van het Beierse Woud (Bayerischer Wald) zijn imposant. Het maakt deel uit van het grootste bosgebied van Midden Europa en ligt ten noorden van de Donau, bij Tsjechië en Oostenrijk, tussen Regensburg en Passau.

Het gesteente in dit gebied bevat grote hoeveelheden kwarts en droeg daardoor bij aan de ontwikkeling van de glasindustrie. Tot op de dag van vandaag worden er fraaie glazen voorwerpen zoals vazen en glazen geproduceerd.

Wandelen, fietsen en mountainbiken

De omgeving leent zich perfect voor een actieve vakantie. Trek je wandelschoenen aan en verken de omgeving te voet. Fietsliefhebbers kunnen langs de meren en door het bos de mooiste routes fietsen. Ook mountainbikers halen hun hart op in het Beierse Woud.

Het Beierse Woud is een bosrijk gebied dat voor een groot deel boven de 1000 meter ligt. Sommige bergtoppen liggen boven de 1.400 meter. In het bos komen nog veel inheemse diersoorten voor. Er zijn zelfs wolven en bruine beren gespot!
