It is a metropolis that owes its wealth to its location on the Baltic Sea. This sea is also responsible for part of the history of the city. The city was founded by the Swedish king Gastav Vasa I. On 12 June 1550, this king ordered the construction of this city during the domination of the Swedes. The city then arose in the delta of the Vantta River. In the year 2000 Helsinki was awarded the well-deserved "Cultural Capital" title.
