The grange is an ideal starting point for a visit to the town of Durham, 4 km away. The old town of Durham is beautifully situated on a rock in the bend of the River Wear. Durham has a nice center and the cathedral and castle are worth a visit. Newcastle upon Tyne, where the boat leaves for the Netherlands (IJmuiden), is 28 km away.
