Meren, bergen en platteland

De provincie Oppland ligt ten noordwesten van Oslo. Door het gebied lopen twee grote verbindingswegen, de E6 van Oslo – Trondheim en de E16 van Oslo – Bergen. Het landschap is er zeer afwisselend. Mooie meren en relatief veel platteland vanwege de aanwezigheid van water en vruchtbare grond. Het noordoosten van Oppland is bergachtig en een zeer geliefde bestemming voor bergwandelaars en skiërs.

Kamperen bij het Mjøsameer

Kamperen kan op de campings langs de E6 bij het prachtige Mjøsameer, met Olympische steden als Gjøvik en Lillehammer als trekpleister. Maar ook verder noordwaarts, tussen Otta en Dombas waar je langs de Nationale Parken Rondane en Dovrefjell rijdt, zijn campings te vinden.

Bezoek Fagernes en Lom

Ook langs de E16 liggen veel campings, zeker rond het gezellige plaatsje Fagernes. Vanuit Fagernes kun je – noordwaarts – ook de National Touristvegen RV 51 richting Lom nemen. De weg voert je door een adembenemend landschap met uitzicht op Jotunheimen Nationaal Park.

Vanuit Lom start de National Touristvegen RV50 richting het machtige Sognefjord. De weg brengt je naar een hoogte van maar liefst 1.434 meter (hoogst gelegen weg in Noord Europa) over een bochtige, maar werkelijk schitterende route over het Sognefjellet. Ook Lom is een grote trekpleister in de provincie Oppland. Dat komt deels doordat het centraal tussen een aantal mooie routes gelegen is, maar voornamelijk door de aanwezigheid van een prachtige oude staafkerk.
