Camping at campsites in the Midi-Pyrénées is camping in the largest region of France. These include the regions of Aveyron, Lot, Tarn, Tarn-Garonne, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Ariège and the Hautes Pyrénées. The landscape is varied and each region has charming villages full of historical and cultural treasures and the opportunity to make fantastic trips from the campsite.

Gers, the heart of Gascony

The Gers is the heart of Gascony in Southwest France. This region is an undiscovered part of France where few tourists come. You can still fully enjoy the “real” France here. Of course, here too the traditional markets with regional products such as Foie Gras, traditional pastries and French cheeses and wines such as Armagnac and Floc Gascogne.

Rich history in the Midi-Pyrenees

The campsites in the Midi-Pyrénées have a rich history that cannot be ignored. People already lived in this area in prehistoric times. In Tarascon there is a museum about antiquity to visit and you can also visit caves. Over the centuries, much has been found for power in France. Castles and ruins remain, each with its own story.

Walking and cycling around the water

Many campsites in the Midi-Pyrénées are located on the water. The ideal place to take a refreshing dip, take a canoe trip or go white water rafting. Speaking of water, the Canal du Midi runs from Toulouse to Séte. The canal, which is 150 miles long, connects the Garonne to the Mediterranean and has more than a hundred locks. The canal is widely used for tourist shipping. The old paths along the canal are now a popular cycling route.

Mountain sports are also practiced in the higher mountains of the Pyrenees. Everyone knows the Tour de France stages through the mountains of the Pyrenees. You can follow this by bicycle or by car and once you have reached the top you can enjoy the beautiful views.

Lourdes

The pilgrimage site of Lourdes receives many thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. The complex, including the underground cathedral, is very impressive, even for non-believers. Do not forget to visit Lourdes when you are at one of the campsites in the Midi-Pyrénées.

Gastronomy

Visit one of the many markets with regional products from the campsites in the Midi-Pyrénées. Here ingredients are used that are completely unknown in Dutch cuisine. At the local markets, near the campsites, here you can admire and of course buy the delicious ingredients. Perhaps you will manage to prepare a delicious meal of these regional products for the tent, caravan or camper. How about the cassoulet? This is a stew of beans, sausage and meat and is covered with a bread crust. In addition, each region has its own types of wine, brandy and cheese.
