Bambouseraie de Prafrance

Are you staying at one of the campsites in Languedoc-Roussillon? Then a visit to the Bambouseraie de Prafrance is definitely recommended. This bamboo forest was created in 1855 by Eugène Mazel. He had traveled to the Far East to study the mulberry tree. This tree is necessary for the cultivation of silkworms. Mazel also took some bamboo shoots and planted them in Prafrance on the river Gardon. The bamboo trees quickly grew into a small jungle.

Corbière and Cathar country

The area around Carcassonne in the Corbière region is one of the most wild and natural regions in France. Visit the famous Cathar castles here. But the city of Carcassonne is also worth a visit. In this medieval city you can eat the typical regional dish cassoulet on the terraces and in the restaurants. This is a white bean and meat stew. A delicious white sparkling wine from Limoux, but also a delicious Corbière wine from this region fits perfectly with this. If you don't feel like walking, you can take a carriage ride in the style of the city.

Sun, sea and beach

The painting town of Collioure is also recommended. Painters such as Matisse, Derain and Picasso were often found here.

Wines in Languedoc-Roussillon

Camping at a campsite in Languedoc-Roussillon is also called camping in the wine barn of France. The immense wine region stretches from the Rhône Delta to the foothills of the Pyrenees. About half of all wine is produced here. In addition to the red and white wines, rosé and sparkling wine are also made. It is also an important production area for "vins doux naturels", these are sweet aperitif or dessert wines. Think of the Muscat de Rivesaltes and Banyuls.
