Camping at campsites in Ticino Switzerland

During a camping holiday at a campsite in Tessin (Ticino) you can choose between the mountains or the lakes, both are overwhelmingly present in Ticino. If your caravan or motorhome is on a campsite in the north of Ticino, then you are just south of the Gotthard Pass or the Lukmanier Pass. A wonderful area to practice mountain sports from your campsite.

Ticino is fortunate to have two large lakes, Lago Maggiore and Lago di Lugano, although much of Lake Maggiore is in Italy. Many campsites are located on or near these two lakes. A smaller number of campsites are located in the valleys of the Maggia or Leventina. With so much water nearby, practicing a water sport is obvious. The active camper will certainly enjoy themselves in Ticino. Other sports are also possible, such as cycling (not all roads are steep, there are also flat parts), mountain hiking or climbing. In short, when you decide to camp in Ticino you can be sure that you will have a nice camping holiday.

Accessibility of the campsites in Ticino

When you decide to camp at one of the campsites in Ticino, it is useful to know something about the accessibility of this area. One way to reach Ticino (or Tessin as the German-speaking Swiss call it) from the north is to drive through the 17-kilometer Gotthard tunnel. Another option is the much more beautiful Gotthard Pass, parallel to the tunnel. The Nufenenpas (from the west) and the Lukmanierpas (from the east) are not recommended with a caravan. If you come from a completely different direction, the San Bernardino pass is still an option. You will then enter Bellinzona Ticino. Once through the tunnel or over the pass you will find yourself in Italy. The style of houses, churches and other buildings is very similar to the style found in Italy.

The climate in Ticino

Due to its location on the south side of the Alps, there is a favorable, almost Mediterranean, climate in Ticino. Spring can already be nice and warm and sunny and that can continue well into autumn.
