The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a popular camping destination. It is close to the Netherlands, and it still gives you the feeling that you are on vacation. The nature around the campsites in Luxembourg is beautiful and versatile. There has always been a very close bond between the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, think of the joint Benelux. Luxembourg is the only country in the world where a Grand Duke is the head of state.

Castles & Medieval Ruins

The name Luxembourg literally means "small castle". Scattered across the country are numerous castles and medieval ruins, which recall earlier times. Most castles can not only be admired from the outside, but can also be visited from the inside.

Schengen Castle

For nearly thirty years, Schengen Castle was the setting for "Europe without borders", also known as the "Schengen Treaty". This means that you can travel without border controls within the affiliated countries in Europe. A number of memorials have been placed around the castle to mark the conclusion of the treaty.

Hiking and cycling tours from campsites in Luxembourg

More than a third of Luxembourg consists of greenery. Think of parks, gardens and forests. Ideal for a walk or bike ride during the camping holiday. Walk from the campsites in Luxembourg through unspoiled nature or past the imposing castles and impressive ruins. Or take a bike and see the capital Luxembourg from a different perspective.

The Müllertal area is also well worth exploring. It is also called Little Switzerland. This is because of the impressive rocks and the green, sloping landscape.

Vianden

The historic town of Vianden on the border with Germany is characterized by the grand castle from the Middle Ages. Surrounded by wooded hills, Vianden is an ideal starting point for a walking or cycling tour when staying at one of the Luxembourg campsites nearby. Do you prefer to look higher? Then step into the chairlift and see the city from 450 meters! Besides Vianden, there are several places that deserve attention. Esch sur Sure is one of them. Beautifully situated on the Sure with a special reservoir and an enormous ruin that overlooks the town.

Practical information

In Luxembourg, an old Franconian-Moselle dialect, Lëtzebuergesch, is spoken. If you speak a word of French or German in addition to Dutch, you can easily make yourself understood in and around the campsites. A valid passport or European identity card is required. Motor vehicle drivers must have a valid driver's license, vehicle registration certificate and green card. When you drive a trailer or caravan, it is mandatory to have the papers with you.

Fishermen can have a great time on the banks of the various waters in Luxembourg. However, please note; Here, just like in the Netherlands, you need a fishing pass or fishing license to use the fishing water. These are often available at the local tourist offices, post offices, town halls or through the relevant consulates or tourist offices in your country.
