Promo title

De camping bestaat uit een vlak terrein in een beboste omgeving, rustig gelegen aan een baai van de Finse Golf.

Hamina Camping Pitkäthiekat is located on a secluded bay of the Gulf of Finland, not far from the Russian border. This quietly located campsite consists of a flat terrain in a wooded environment. The town and the surroundings are so interesting that mentioning this campsite in the campsite guide should not be missed. On the way to Hamina Camping Pitkäthiekat there is a wetland nature reserve, with a nice view from a viewpoint. It is also a good area for fishing. Hamina is the last larger Finnish place for the gens with Russia. The shape of the city is still separate, because the city plan resembles a wagon road in which the spokes represent the streets. The wall of the city center is part of the fortification from the eighteenth century. Opposite the cadet school is the soldier mother Varvara (1870-1941) with her bread cart. She sold bread at the gate of the cat school. Around her shoulder is a bag, in which you can put money for the invalids of the Second World War. Hamina is a nice town founded by the Swedish governor Per Brahe. When in 1271 Karelia had to be relinquished to Russia, King Frederick I built a new city here as a border fortress, which was named after him. It will not be so well known, but in West and South Finland the city and street names are bilingual. That is the name of Hamina on his Swedish Frederikshamn. The city center is an octagon where eight streets meet at the place where the town hall stands. This garrison town on the Russian border is closed with a bastion. On the large market square stands the octagonal Flag Tower (Lipputorni) from 1790. It has pink walls with a black domed roof. At the Town Hall Square stands the Lutheran Church from 1843 and also the round orthodox church from 1837. This is a colorful building with a bell tower. Also on the town hall square is the city museum, the stone house where Katharina II of Russia and Gustaf III of Sweden held negotiations in 1783. The school for reserve officers is on a large square. On 7 September of 1809 (pecies 200 years ago) the Peace of Hamina was signed. Sweden officially transferred the government of Finland to Russia. Finland then became a Grand Duchy of Russia with the Tsar as absolute monarch.
