The Karelian open-air museum is located in the city. Famous was the waterfall in the Vuoksi (Imatrankoski). In 1929 a dam and the electric power plant were installed and the waterfall was tamed. Nevertheless, the locks are opened daily for half an hour. For the "waterfall show". There is a park near the dam, the reservoir and the central station; in a stone water basin the lying statue of "the virgin of Imatra" can be seen. According to information, the image is a reminder of those who mostly died from suicide in the waterfall.
