Campsites on Italy's Adriatic Coast

• Wide sandy beaches

• Ideal for an active or lazy beach holiday
• Trieste, Venice, Rimini, the Republic of San Marino, Ancona, Bari, Brindisi
• Natural Park Delta del Po, the Gargano
• Excellent tourist facilities, Italian hospitality

The Adriatic coast of Italy is best known for the wide sandy beaches, the small villages with their lively boulevards, the bagno's, gelateria's, restaurants and above all their lively population in a mix of foreign and Italian guests. You will find famous cities such as Trieste, Venice, Ravenna, Rimini, Ancona and further south in the beautiful nature of the Gargano and beyond, via Bari and Brindisi all the way to the tip of the heel in the Italian boot, where the Adriatic Sea merges into the Ionian Sea.

With such an enormous variety of regions, the east coast of Italy offers a multitude of beach fun, entertainment and natural beauty. The nearest beaches at Cavallino and Jesolo, and further south from Venice to Rimini, are a nice distance from the Netherlands. Tip: take it easy, just drive there in 2 days and enjoy the journey…

The provinces further south, Le Marche, Abruzzo and Puglia are definitely worth the slightly longer journey. Advantage: an even lesser-known side of Italy, less well-trodden paths, but also there beautiful cities and villages, which lie like gems in the green of the overwhelming Apennines, the mountain range that stretches like the backbone of Italy from north to south along the Adriatic Sea.

Important Cities on Italy's Adriatic Coast

A simple list of cities that are absolutely worth a visit of one or more days is actually not enough… An absolute highlight is of course Venice, once the most powerful city-state in Italy and almost an open-air museum in which the Grand Canal, the Rialto bridge, Piazza San Marco and the gondolas are well known and have become a national symbol. But every city has a history and a wealth of cultural heritage that can be admired while strolling while enjoying a gelato or a real piadina… Trieste that falls like a waterfall from the mountains directly into the Adriatic (as the Italians call the Adriatic Sea ). Ancona, popular port for departures by boat to Greece, Ravenna, with its beautiful mosaics, Bari with the famous Saint Nicholas Church. Oh, way too many to list. The cities further inland are also beautiful. Often still unknown and therefore perhaps unloved, but that is unjustified. Wherever you go camping, you will find the most wonderful cities along the entire Adriatic coast. Still a personal recommendation? ferrara! Ah, che bella, Ferrara…

Active cycling, walking and beach holiday

It is wonderful to cycle and walk along the entire Adriatic coast. In the south a bit rougher, less cultivated, but always well cared for. And with their well-known enthusiasm and helpfulness, the Italians are always ready to show you the way! In every region there is an extensive network of so-called 'sentieri', hiking trails, also for the mountains, for which good maps are also available. Be sure to ask about it at the campsite of your choice on the Adriatic coast!

There are both busy and less crowded beaches on the Adriatic coast. Always pleasant and the umbrellas with sun loungers on the beach that you can rent at a bagno provide a pleasant interpretation of your beach holiday. Before you know it, you'll be best friends with the neighboring family… But if you prefer to enjoy more privately, that is certainly possible. Opportunities everywhere for beach football, fine beach volleyball at the bagno or… a nice game of 'boccia', beach jeu-des-boules with wooden balls and lots and lots of Italian theatre… ;-)

Camping on the Adriatic coast of Italy

Tourism on the Adriatic coast is well-developed, with excellent facilities at the campsites, which vary from extreme luxury to parks that are even more geared towards authentic camping. From small but nice to glamping villages, there is plenty of choice for everyone's camping holiday to awaken the travel jitters.

In our overview you will find an extensive selection of campsites with a clear description of the quality level and the environment.

Another important thing to know: in the north of the Adriatic coast you will find most foreign guests, especially around Venice. More to the south you will find more campsites where the Italians themselves go on holiday. The temperature is often a bit higher there. But along the entire coast of the Adriatic you will enjoy the warmth, hospitality and culinary delights of the Italians!
